Who we are
Formed through the merger of the National Optics Institute (INO) and the Computer Research Institute of Montreal (CRIM), Luqia is a new industrial innovation lab at the intersection of academia and industry, bringing together expertise in artificial intelligence, advanced photonics, and quantum technologies within a single organization.
It offers a unique capacity for R&D and pre-commercial prototyping to transform discoveries in AI and photonics into market-ready products, generating significant socioeconomic benefits for businesses while also contributing to national security.
What we do
Luqia is a major player in the climate and geospatial field. It contributes in particular to the development of Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standards, including through reference implementations of standards. In addition, Luqia collaborates in the implementation of high-performance computing platforms and infrastructures that enable the dissemination and use of geospatial and climate data in accordance with FAIR principles. Finally, Luqia develops artificial intelligence tools applied to geospatial data to improve the results and analysis of this massive and complex data. Luqia is also recognized for its role in bringing together the various players in the ecosystem and helps bridge the gap between academic research and the needs of industry, government, and civil society.
Tools to facilitate the dissemination and use of climate data
PAVICS
Developed in partnership with Ouranos, the PAVICS climate data analysis platform is designed for users who want to analyze climate data in the Python programming environment. PAVICS provides direct access to several climate and meteorological datasets, which can be analyzed without having to download them locally. The platform facilitates the spatial and temporal division of data, bias correction, and the calculation of numerous climate indicators, as well as the creation of maps and graphs, in addition to offering hydrological modeling tools.
Marble Climate
Marble is a network of cloud-based web service nodes that provides access to large climate and satellite datasets. Marble offers cloud-based data analytics that implement OGC standards for searching and interacting with data, as well as an online workspace that includes climate data analysis tools.
STAC-MLM
The STAC Machine Learning Model (MLM) extension provides a standard set of fields to describe machine learning models trained on spatiotemporal data, including collections of satellite images, and enable the use of models in inference.
Weaver
Weaver is an execution management service inspired by the OGC-API that enables the execution of workflows involving multiple applications and inputs and outputs from different web processing services (WPS). Remote execution is delegated to one or more application, deployment, and execution services or remote service providers. Weaver thus enables the construction of complex but fully traceable geospatial or climate data processing pipelines, promoting their reliability and robustness.
